Becoming Successfully Shy

Bismillahirrahmanirraheem~

I was scrolling down my LinkedIn page past few days and stumbled upon a quite interesting article by Shell about this lady. She was an IT manager at Shell and I was truly inspired by her story. She's just plainly shy, not an introvert, which contradicts with myself. I can be both shy and introvert at the same time. Sometimes not shy at all hahaha. I'm still hoping that I can write a good blog post in the future. Today's story is just a sheer copy. Hope you can enjoy.

{Hari ni ada mood nak update blog tapi malas nak translate. Hu hu}

Becoming Successfully Shy - Mary's Story

Mary’s struggle with shyness came to a head during a virtual meeting about a new IT process launch. Was extra testing essential or could the process go live without it? Mary was adamant that there should be additional testing, but instead of calmly raising her concern she allowed her shyness to get the better of her. Mary uncharacteristically blurted out her objection.

Mary explains: “I needed to be the one to intervene. Terrified, my objection came out all blurty: ‘We can’t go live. We haven’t done enough testing. No!’”

Negative Mentality

Bismillahhirrahmanirraheem.

Sometimes, the feeling of wanting to turn back time is killing me, a lot. Adulthood is a time where you starts decorating your own life with your own whim, and the thought of living like a hikikomori is nearly impossible. Yet, you have to mingle around with a variety of individuals.

I, do have the affinity (even not that strong) to be affected by negatively emotional people around. Even though it seems that I don't care with what were they thinking, but bit by bit, I did. I'm so stressed out. I've list'em below, and I am truly unhappy with these.

1) I got brainy ideas, why don't they just shut up and take my advice?

Yes, I really do respect you for your ideas. It's hard to admit, but most of your ideas are amazing. But if you keep whining and whining and whining every single day, please pack your stuffs up, go back home. You're doing it wrong. Do it the correct way, you brainy fella!

The Work

At first, I preferred of getting myself a job in Penang. I missed Penang so much and so the people that lived inside. Nevertheless, the place is small and surrounded by water feature. Reminiscing the good ol' days in university with friends made me realized that something had missing in my life - the fun. I missed my friends and my spring of youth so much!

After all, working life is not so bad. You have the money. You have the mobility to go everywhere you wish since now can afford your own transportation. But uh-huh, you don't really have the time to pamper yourself at home. Inhaling the morning breeze...lazying around watching your favorite show...sticking at the mirror finding imperfections on your face - only on weekends. Weekdays? Forget it.

Working around men

Women who are working in a technical department can be called as goddess or princess of awesomeness - since there is not much of them around. Mathematically, my department itself consists only three women (including myself) out of 20++ of other staffs - which all of them are male.

So inspired for an onsite job. Source.
While looking at myself that as shy as Hinata, I asked myself - can I do this? I was freaking nervous at first, and shy also. I don't even have the courage to look in their eyes more than 5 seconds while conversing. But after a couple of months, I think I have get used of it. No longer feeling 'eerie' when talking to them. Yeay!

Things being so hectic in this few weeks since a colleague went for an offshore job and won't be coming back until end of this month. Plus, my workmate also have to work on night-shift basis because of the on-going 24 hours crude oil distillation. Leaving me alone in the lab, staring at the chromatograms all day long. Huu.

The Chemistry Graduates Guide 101

Bismillahirrahmanirraheem.

After a few months of hiatus from rigorous blogging activity, I am thinking of starting it all over again. Being a working women is pretty hard for your info. You may be thinking that after graduating from college/university, your are freed from those crazy, head-cracking exams, but working life is no better. There is more to it. It is more challenging yet stressful sometimes. However, it depends on your work environment for sure.

Graduating and entering the job field

Yeay!
It is good to hear that you have completed all of the university courses and subjects - when receiving your confirmation letter from the registrar saying that you are qualified to have your graduation/convocation day very soon, in few months ahead. In the mean time, you are already fired-up looking out for jobs - as a chemist or researcher, or anything related to chemistry.

In some cases, some chemistry graduates might opt to deviate from the field. It is your own decision. Your life is in your hands, you have the right to choose your own path. But don't you think it is such a waste when you are in 3 or 4-years of your tertiary education - taking chemistry - graduated and doing something else?

Play Cook-Cook

Bismillahirrahmanirraheem.

As a fresh kick-start for 2012, I decided to stuff in some fresh 'ingredients' as well as (unfortunately) not-so-fresh recipes in this blog.

No love is more sincere than the love of food - this saying had moved me a lot. I got it when watching Asian Food Channel (AFC). Honestly, I feel I am the happiest woman in the world when I'm in the kitchen. I love food and I love cooking (despite of my petite anatomy). Cooking is such a great and tremendous stress reliever for me. I am never a good cook, but I'm progressing. Practices just the best way. And not forgetting your passion, because it's your only trump card when things go wrong. Okay, let me show you my so-called 'masterpieces'.

1. Charcoal chocolate cake.

This is the first time my experience of baking a (supposed-to-be) moist chocolate cake. As predicted, it turned out to be a bad cake enough to be called a charcoal. Yes, I baked a charcoal! Huu. No right mixture of ingredients, temperature imbalance; I'm very sure of it.

It took several days for me to 'get rid' of this cake. But anyway, this cake is quite crispy and chocolatey right after it gets out of the oven.

Father: A Man Of Words

Bismillahirrahmanirraheem.

What a rain. Terengganu is been cold for days. Not icy-cold though. It's just 25-28°C. Wet but refreshing indeed. This is one of the hidden ni'mah that we should be grateful for.

Back to the title, yes, it is all about a man of words - a father.

When I was a kid, I took an image of myself as an average kid that is not-so-rebellious, but extremely independent and love to do everything on my whim. In other word, I dislike the fact that my parents, father especially, get the full control on my life and my future without realizing that I am just a 3 or 4-years-old brat.

Since then, father already appointed to each of his kids, what they have to be in their future. For example, Abang to be a magistrate, me to be an accountant, Fakrul to be like this, Bibi to be a doctor and Adik to be like that.

Regardless, we are all now deviate so much from the his expectations. We strive on our own path of excellence.

The Eyesight

The Blind Beggar. Oil painting artwork by Jules Bastien Lepage
A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: "I am blind, please help." There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, "Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?"

[Video] 10 Rare Mental Disorders

Assalamualaykum. Few days back, I stumbled upon this video on Youtube. Pretty interesting. There's one mental disorder (MD) featured inside called - Alice-in-Wonderland Syndrome. For those who ever watched a Korean series entitled 'Secret Garden', you must be surprised that the lead role, Kim Joo Won (played by Hyun Bin) suffered from this MD.

Frankly speaking, I never had an idea that this MD really existed. Enjoy this video, folks.

P/s: one of the MD freaked me out. -.-

Khadija Evans

The name I am called by my Christian parents is Bobbie Evans, but the name I am known by in the Muslim community is Khadija Evans. This is the story of how my husband and I came to embrace Islam.

I can remember standing in the kitchen of the house I lived in when I was just seven or eight years old and looking towards the door that went outside. I prayed to a god whom I wasn’t sure existed and I begged Him to show himself to me if He was really there. Nothing happened.

I can remember being nine or ten years old and writing a letter to God and hiding it in the heat register in my bedroom, thinking God, if He existed, would come and retrieve it and answer my prayers. But the next day, the letter was still there.

I had always had a hard time accepting the existence of God, and of understanding the beliefs taught in Christian churches. Even though my parents weren’t very religious, and rarely went to church, they thought it was best that my two brothers and I go. We were allowed to choose our religion when we very young. I think I was about six or seven, and my brothers were one and two years older then I. I chose a Methodist church for no other reason then it was a few blocks away from our house, and my brothers chose a Lutheran church because it was also close, and I hadn’t chosen it.

A Man Named Rashed

Little muslims reciting Quran
This is a story about a man named Rashed. He tells his story as follows…

I was not more than thirty years old when my wife gave birth to my first child. I still remember that night.

I had stayed out all night long with my friends, as was my habit. It was a night filled with useless talk, and worse, with backbiting, gossiping, and making fun of people. I was mostly the one who made people laugh; I would mock others and my friends would laugh and laugh. I remember on that night that I’d made them laugh a lot. I had an amazing ability to imitate others – I could change the sound of my voice until I sounded exactly like the person I was mocking. No one was safe from my biting mockery, even my friends; some people started avoiding me just to be safe from my tongue. I remember on that night, I had made fun of a blind man who I’d seen begging in the market. What was worse, I had put my foot out in front him – he tripped and fell, and started turning his head around, not knowing what to say.

I went back to my house, late as usual, and I found my wife waiting for me. She was in a terrible state, and said in a quivering voice, “Rashed… where were you?”

Common Islamic Phrases You Need To Know

IN SHA' ALLAH When a person wishes to plan for the future, when he promises, when he makes resolutions, and when he makes a pledge, he makes them with permission and the will of Allah. For this reason, a Muslim uses the Qur'anic instructions by saying "In Sha ' Allah." The meaning of this statement is: "If Allah wills." Muslims are to strive hard and to put their trusts with Allah. They leave the results in the hands of Allah.

INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAHI RAJI'UN When a Muslim is struck with a calamity, when he loses one of his loved ones, or when he has gone bankrupt, he should be patient and say this statement, the meaning of which is : "We are from Allah and to hom we are returning." Muslims believe that Allah is the One who gives and it is He takes away. He is testing us. Hence, a Muslim submits himself to Allah. He is grateful and thankful to Allah for whatever he gets. On the other hand, he is patient and says this expression in times of turmoil and calamity.

I'm Sorry, It's Way Too Personal

Assalamualaikum and good day to all my dear readers. Just a short mumbling here and there. The weather here in Penang is just nice, with bright sun as usual. But apparently there's slight cloudy at the back side of the hill. Yes, Minden hill I guess.

The personal thing that I would like to highlight here is about Facebook. Scrolling up and down the wall, my eyes catches a friend's status; 'deleting strangers and deactivate'. Hmm. Sounds intriguing. I clicked on my friend's list. And for sure, several of them I never knew who they were. I guess they just adding me randomly for the sake of increasing their friend's number.

Muslim Manga, Cartoon And Arts

Assalamualaikum and good day!

Dear readers, first of all I would to plead all of you to take a minute and pray for the recent earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan. Even though Japan is not a Muslim-majority nation, but Islam taught us to do good deeds for all mankind. The disastrous natural phenomenon had left detrimental effects on the land, which I stunned in dismay when the first time I saw the video in FB. Mashaallah. Allah is so great. Everything happen in His will.

I'm a huge fan of manga. And I read a lot of Japanese manga such as Naruto, Yakitate! Japan and Fullmetal Alchemist. Several days ago, I bumped into one website. I'm sure quite of you know Deviantart. A well-known website where, a community of artists and those devoted to arts.

Arise, Muslim Youngsters!

Salam alayk to my dear readers. It's the holy and barakah Jumu'ah again. Alhamdulillah, we're once again given the ni'mah from The Almighty Creator to sip the world's luxury. How's your imaan today?

My thoughts wandering about the young Muslims whereabout today. Especially in Malaysia. Don't we have more than 60% majority of Muslims in Malaysia? So why am I searching for young Muslims when we can see the existence of a huge number of Muslim community in Malaysia?

The answer is, the number of young Muslims that really understand the belief behind Islam itself. Most of them nowadays practically, take things for granted. Embracing Islam as the way of life apparently not the priority of these youngsters nowadays. By navigating away from the teachings, it is a sign that the end of dunya seemingly very near. The mother nature in on the verge of death.

Several fundamental things that I would like to take into account, very crucial for the development of these 'little khalifahs'.

There Goes A Dad's Advice About Facebook

When I was chit-chatting with families on a black-out day, suddenly the topic changed into this facebook-thingy issue.

The earlier chit-chat was expounding on a childhood friend of mine, a primary-school boy whom I never met since 15 years ago. But apparently I bumped into him in facebook.

I named this guy as 'K'.

So, my mom asked in astonishment, "How come you found his facebook? 15 years is not a short period."

"Oh, I've uploaded a photo when I was in standard one. Then, one of my friend tagged all of the people on the photo to their facebook. That's how it goes, mom." I replied.

The not-so-huge-but-cozy living room went silent for a few moment until my dad voiced out.
